What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a very discreet and effective way to safely straighten your teeth and enhance the appearance of your smile. The treatment uses a series of bespoke clear aligners to gradually move the positions of your teeth using gentle forces.

All you need to do is wear each aligner for 20-22 hours per day. Invisalign fits seamlessly into your daily life, and doesn’t require any changes to your diet, as you can remove your aligners to eat and drink whatever you choose, and brush your teeth easily. Invisalign is very effective for a wide range of orthodontic issues, giving you a new straighter smile that can significantly improve your quality of life and self-esteem.

What happens during Invisalign treatment?

Consultation

We begin your teeth straightening treatment with a detailed consultation. We examine your teeth to ensure you are suitable for Invisalign, and explain the treatment process in detail. Using our state-of-the-art equipment, we take digital scans and images of your teeth, and can even show you a preview of your new smile!

Planning

With the help of innovative technology, we create your bespoke treatment plan. This includes a predicted timescale for your treatment, and the costs involved. We are happy to answer any questions you have. We can also use special ClinCheck software to show you exactly how your teeth will move during your Invisalign treatment.

Straightening

When your custom aligners are ready, we give you some advice on how and when to wear them. You wear each aligner in the treatment series for 1-2 weeks before changing to the next one. This ensures gradual movements throughout treatment on the journey to your straight smile. We keep a close eye on your progress at regular appointments and make sure everything is on track to the best possible results.

Retention

When you have finished wearing your last aligner, your Invisalign treatment is complete! We make sure you are delighted with your new straight smile and provide you with a custom retainer. This is often worn overnight and ensures your teeth stay in their new positions for the long term.

Frequently asked questions

Will Invisalign hurt?

Invisalign aligners are custom-made to your exact specifications, making them a comfortable and snug fit around your teeth. When you first wear a new aligner, you may experience some discomfort, but this will fade quickly and is often a good indication that your treatment is working!

Am I a good candidate for Invisalign?

Most people are suitable for Invisalign, as long as their teeth and gums are healthy. Invisalign may not be the best choice for every patient, depending on the complexity of the case, but we will discuss this with you at your initial consultation.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners to exert gentle forces on your teeth, gradually moving their positions and straightening your smile. The treatment is very effective on a range of mild to moderate orthodontic issues, including misalignment, overcrowding, incorrect bites, and gaps between teeth.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

On average, Invisalign takes around 9-18 months to complete. The further your teeth have to move, the longer your treatment will be, so complex cases may take longer. At your initial consultation, we give you an idea of how long your treatment will take.

What can I eat while wearing clear aligners?

Although you can’t eat anything while your clear aligners are in your mouth, you are able to remove them in order to eat and drink whatever you choose! One of the many benefits of Invisalign is that no diet restrictions are necessary and the treatment fits seamlessly into your life.

Why do I need to wear a retainer?

Retainers are seen as an important final stage in all orthodontic treatment. Wearing a retainer keeps your teeth in their new straight positions, as they have a tendency to move and your hard work during treatment could be lost. We recommend you wear your retainer overnight for as long as you want your teeth to stay straight.
