Dental sedation is a safe and simple way to help you feel much more willing to visit the dentist and undergo treatment. It can be used alongside most dental treatments and can really help nervous patients access dental care and restorative treatment to protect and enhance their oral health.
We offer intravenous sedation at Shine Dental Clinic. You remain conscious throughout and are still able to talk to your dentist and answer questions, but without worry. The level of sedation is tailored to your needs and monitored closely throughout treatment by our supportive team. Afterwards, you are likely to have no memory of the dental procedure at all!
Book an appointmentIf you would like to have sedation for an upcoming treatment, or we have suggested it may be beneficial for you, we discuss the procedure with you. We are happy to tailor the consultation and include as much or as little detail as you are comfortable with. We also give you the chance to ask us any questions.
To prepare for the sedation, we assess your general health, looking closely at your blood pressure and oxygen levels. We give you some instructions and advice on what to eat before your appointment, and ask that someone accompanies you to the practice.
We use sedation specialists 3H for our sedation. They are a team of expert consultant anaesthetists specialising in sedation and general anaesthesia. They provide safe and modern dental sedation techniques, ensuring a comfortable and stress-free experience. The team is highly skilled and equipped to handle any medical emergencies that may arise. When you are more relaxed, we give you any other necessary medication, such as local anaesthetic for pain relief during treatment.
You will be able to leave our practice shortly after your treatment has finished. The effects of the intravenous sedation will take a while to fully wear off, so you will need a friend or family member to take you home and stay with you.
At Shine Dental Clinic, we offer intravenous sedation for patients looking for a way to manage their dental fear. It is safe, quick, and effective.
Many people with dental anxiety are good candidates for sedation dentistry, providing they are in good general health. If you experience significant dental fear or are feeling worried about the prospect of lengthy treatment, we can use sedation to help. At Shine Dental Clinic, our sedation services are only available for adult patients. Please talk to us for more information.
The primary benefit of sedation dentistry is to alleviate fear and anxiety during dental procedures. It can also make treatment more tolerable for nervous patients, who are able to relax and communicate in a better way.
The potential risks include side effects such as drowsiness, nausea and dizziness. In rare cases, an allergic reaction may occur. We are trained and experienced in sedation to minimise the risks and make sure it works for you.
Sedation does not provide pain relief, but we can administer local anaesthetic once you are relaxed. You won’t feel this, and then will not feel pain during your treatment either.
After you have had intravenous sedation, you will need to take the rest of the day to recover from the procedure. It is important to have someone to accompany you home and you should not drive or operate heavy machinery for at least 24 hours.
Sedation is a safe procedure when administered and monitored by a qualified and experienced dental professional. Our team is fully trained in sedation techniques and prioritises patient safety. We’ll ensure you understand the sedation process and what to expect during your appointment. Since you’ll remain conscious throughout, the risks associated with general anaesthesia are avoided.
