What does teeth whitening treatment involve?

To begin your teeth whitening journey, we see you for a consultation appointment to make sure you are suitable for treatment. We ask you about your ideal results and advise which whitening treatment would be best for you. We also give you the chance to ask us any questions.

We use advanced digital dental technology to comfortably scan your teeth. The images are used to create your custom-made whitening trays for precise and accurate whitening at home.

If you are having Enlighten whitening, we show you how to use the whitening trays and gel and leave you to carry out your treatment at home. Over the next three weeks, you simply need to wear your whitening trays at a time and place that suits you, even overnight as you sleep. At the end of your home treatment, we give your newly white teeth a boost with an in-surgery appointment.

If you are having Zoom! whitening, we brighten your teeth in our practice. We apply whitening gel to your teeth and use the special whitespeed light to activate this and enhance the colour of your teeth. It takes around an hour, and can whiten up to six shades. Following in-surgery treatment, we give you a take-home kit to continue your whitening.

At the end of treatment, we check you are happy with your results and can even show you a side-by-side comparison with your initial teeth colour. We also give you some advice on how to maintain your whiter smile, including top-up treatments using your whitening trays and additional gel.

Frequently asked questions

Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes, teeth whitening is safe when performed by a qualified dental professional. It doesn’t harm your teeth and preserves the enamel’s structure. Avoid unregulated over-the-counter kits or salon treatments, as these can potentially damage your teeth.

Does teeth whitening hurt?

The teeth whitening process is completely pain-free. No needles or drills are required, and your custom-made whitening trays are snug and accurate for easy and comfortable treatment.

How much whiter will my teeth become?

The degree of whitening varies from person to person. However, you can expect a significant improvement, sometimes up to 14 shades lighter. For heavily stained teeth, a longer treatment period may be necessary.

How long will my teeth whitening results last?

The longevity of your teeth whitening results varies based on individual factors like lifestyle and oral hygiene. Typically, results can last several years. To maintain a bright smile, we recommend a quick top-up treatment twice a year.

Will my dental crowns and veneers change colour too?

Teeth whitening only works on your natural tooth enamel. While dental restorations, like crowns and veneers, may appear slightly cleaner, they won’t lighten to match your natural teeth. If you are planning on getting a dental restoration, we may suggest you whiten your teeth first, so your crown or veneer can be made to match.
